In 2021, Facebook will be sunsetting its Pixel method of tracking in favor of server-side Conversion API to be more in compliance with customer privacy laws like GDPR, CCPA, and Apple's privacy technology being released in iOS 14. This is a good thing for data privacy on the internet!  But there's some work to do in the transition.

What is going on?

One of the changes that Apple is making to the iOS ecosystem is that websites are now limited to a smaller number of user actions or "events" that track user behavior.  Previously, Facebook tracked basically all user behavior on your site and modeled from that behavior, including which pages were visited, which buttons were clicked, and which transactions were completed.  Apple and soon Chrome and Firefox browsers will now be providing their users with more choice and control by blocking trackers entirely when they try to pull too much information, and this "everything and the kitchen sync" to user data collection will be more limited to tracking the specific user events that you care about.

The Groundplan Website Package is being updated to support this change if you use Facebook ads, and there's a number of steps you'll need to take to complete the transition process.

Phase 1 - Verify your domain

We can help you with a portion of this step if we help you administer your domain or DNS.

  1. In Business Manager, select your Business profile, then click Settings >> Business Settings.
  2. Select Brand Safety in the left-hand menu, and then select Domains.
  3. If your domain is listed and verified, you're done!  Otherwise, click "Add a domain" and enter your website's domain name.

  4. You'll see a "Meta-tag verification" method to verify.  If you use the Groundplan Theme, copy the code inside the "Content" area of this tag:

    <meta name="facebook-domain-verification" content="{Your Unique Code}" />

    Paste the code in WordPress under Groundplan Theme Settings >> Footer >> Facebook Domain Verification

  5. For other websites, Copy the text in DNS Verification >> Step 2 and send it to Gameflow in a support ticket. We'll confirm when the record is in place.

  6. Once the verification code is in place, go back to the Business Manager >> Business Settings >> Brand Safety >> Domains and click "Verify"
